The weekend is the time for many people to reset, relax, and re-energise themselves before the next week arrives. It is important that we all prioritise our mental and physical health and take this time to practice some self-care rituals that reduce stress and increase contentment. It is best to listen to your intuition and decide what your mind, body, heart, and soul need in order to decide what rituals are best for you. Here are five-weekend rituals that you might want to try out before the next week begins.
- Pamper Yourself
- Dedicate Some Time to a Hobby
- Soak Up the Sun
- Declutter and Clean
- Set Your Intentions
1. Pamper Yourself
The most important thing that you can possibly do after a busy week is allowing yourself to relax. Set aside some time to groom and preen; exfoliate and nourish your skin, deep-condition your hair, give yourself a nice massage. Starting a new week feeling smooth, fresh, and clean is a real mood-booster and can leave you with a lot of energy and confidence for the coming days.
2. Dedicate Some Time to a Hobby
If you feel like you never have time to learn new things or practice your hobbies, the weekend is a good time to get started. Whether it is playing an instrument, writing a book, researching your favourite topic, or reading a book, use the weekend to do it. Make good use of the time you have available and enrich yourself. These things are what life is made of; make time for them.
3. Soak Up the Sun
It is very important that you get some fresh air and sunlight as often as possible. Take some time to soak up the sun—you can sunbathe, go for a nice morning walk, take your loved ones on a picnic, or participate in any activity that you can enjoy before lunchtime. Wear a comfortable outfit, put your mobile phone on silent, and just let go of all your concerns for an hour or two; use that time to appreciate the beauty that nature provides us so freely in this complex world.
4. Declutter and Clean
You do not have to deep-clean your entire house every single weekend if it is not practical, but it would serve you to take some time out and throw or give away things that you do not need anymore. Go through your cabinets, your desk, your closet, your shelves, and the areas of your house where you often dump things such as receipts, wrappers, empty bottles, etc. only to forget about them later. Clean and organise important areas such as your workspace, and check if you are running low on any supplies—be it stationery or groceries—that you might need during the coming week.
5. Set Your Intentions
Not everyone enjoys planning out their week in detail, and that is okay. You do not need to be a planner to be able to set your intentions. Simply grab a journal or some loose paper and note down what you want to achieve in the following week. It does not have to be a tangible goal. It can be anything—emotions you want to feel, things you want to experience, or areas of yourself that you want to focus on. Take some time to identify these things and set your intentions. You can post some sticky notes around the house to help you remember if that is something that you might enjoy.
The weekend should ideally be all about rejuvenating yourself, prioritising your happiness, and trying new things. Use your weekends to the best of your ability to do the things that bring you joy. It does not matter whether that means working out or binge-watching a show on Netflix. It could be anything—whatever makes you feel good. Take the time to nurture your happiness. You deserve it.
