Goa seems to be a tourism favorite in India – be it for the homegrowns or foreigners. The shifting sand, sunbathing and the smell of freedom in the air, feels simply amazing. What I especially love about this island city is that it holds within the scope of a plethora of possibilities. Whether you want a dose of beach bumming, an extra scoop of luxury or just a breather of culture—Goa seems to be a generous soul. What’s more? India Beach Fashion Week has given me more reason to love this place. It is one of the most popular fashion weeks in the beach and resort wear category in Asia. In fact, just five seasons old, it exuded a vibe of youthfulness and vibrancy.
With the holidays just around the corner, a lot of us would be heading off to soak up as much sun as possible on the beach. This is just the perfect time to rejuvenate! Whether you are seeking inspiration or a shopping guide, here I have collated a list of top 5 IBFW ’17 designers I loved the most!
- Rocky Star
Focused mainly on occasion wear, Rocky Star’s collection was a far cry from boring. What I loved about it were the intricate embellishments. A vibrant womenswear was perfectly complemented by a chivalrous set of tailored black suits for the male counterparts. The colour palette was predominated by the classic shades—black, grey and white—sprinkled with just a dash of gold accents. Fashion’s favourite materials including lace, faux fur and brocade ruled the striking assortment. A plethora of mini dresses flocked the runway and I thought to myself, they’d look so good with fishnet stockings! Bollywood starlet Esha Gupta walked the runway for him and looked stunning as ever in a gold mini number.
- Vikram Phadnis
IBFW ended on a perfect note with designer Vikram Phadnis showcasing his couture line, Destination Bride. Created for the uninhibited bride, the run-of-the-mill colours were replaced by greys, blues and greens—the colours of the abundant sea and the sky. Expect meticulous embroidery in zardozi, kundan and pearl in silhouettes such as sarees, shararas and lehengas! If you are an offbeat bride who would love a tropical destination wedding, here’s a classy, understated collection for you! Kiara Advani looked beautiful in a maroon ensemble.
- Anand Kabra
A rather romantic collection, Anand Kabra’s ensembles were made with threads of tradition and stunning old-fashioned-ness. Featuring vintage prints and embroidery, this one was definitely a show stealer! Meant for festive occasions and holidays, expect to see lehengas, evening gowns and evening wear sets. Long, feminine silhouettes dominated the assortment. Flowy skirts were paired with crop tops or fluid capes. What’s more? You can forget about finding a perfect neckpiece since the necklines were embellished to resemble a piece of jewellery. Red is a raging colour of the season and Anand Kabra’s collection perfectly utilised the hue! White and black were other colours that one can expect to see.
- Love Gen
If you’re someone who loves bright as opposed to subdued, this one’s for you! The Love Gen series of collections were ingenious and intrepid and were marvelous to look at! The ensembles were painted in a pop colour range including bright yellow to vibrant pinks! For the woman who is always on the go, this collection is crafted for comfort in fabrics such as cotton, jersey and knits. Their party line is also something I completely loved, especially their fringed jackets! Nidhi Aggarwal showstopped for Love Gen looking flirty and peppy.
- Ken Ferns
His Love Laugh Live assortment curated for Romedy NOW was a jaunty and cheerful one. Epitomising the spirit of life, the colours were bright and silhouettes fluid. Brownie points to Ken Ferns for making outfits that a girl-next-door can wear too! This ramp to rack collection witnessed a showstopping strut by Gauhar Khan and boy, did she look good!
As the winter season of India Beach Fashion Week 2017 ended, I couldn’t help but let my mind wander off to the fun, frolic and fashion it brought along.
