We’ve all had to bear the sweltering October heat at some point in time. And if you are an outdoors person, it’s double trouble! Due to rising temperatures, the possibility of skin damage increases. Our skin doesn’t always tell us what it needs and that leads to various skin problems, and experiments with several products. Thankfully, nature has provided us with simple remedies that are gentle and effective, to keep your skin cool and glowing!
Ms. Chandrika Mahendra, Principal Scientist, Personal Care, The Himalaya Drug Company, tells us how to keep our skin glowing all day long and cheat the scorching sun!
Give your skin more fluids
One of the basic mantras for beating the October heat is to get more fluids into your body. Your skin glows and appears healthier when your body is adequately hydrated. If you are heading to one of the beaches in Southern India, treat yourself generously with tender coconut water. This natural beverage is not only low in calories but has antioxidants, vitamin C and other essential minerals that enrich your skin.
What you eat impacts your skin. Excessive oily food may cause acne, and the heat only makes it worse. Look for fruits that are rich in Vitamin C such as orange, lemon, kiwi, limetta and so on. They help maintain moisture balance in your skin and Vitamin C also helps build protection against skin wrinkling.
Peel-off that tan
While there are several products available for various skin types, selecting herbal products for your skin is advisable. After a day-out in the sun, try Himalaya tan removal orange peel-off mask which contains natural ingredients and is a good pick. Oranges are rich in Vitamin C and the antioxidants present in the orange peel will work collectively to provide an even-textured skin and act as a natural cleanser. Ingredients such as honey can also act as an antibacterial element with healing properties.
Accessorizing is a win-win
We all love summer because it allows us to flaunt those bright dresses, aviators, bandanas and what not! These accessories definitely amp up the cool quotient, but they also protect us from the piercing sun. Bright colors help reflect the sun’s rays and keep your skin cool. Most importantly, apply sunscreens generously to protect your skin from the October heat. A good herbal sunscreen with SPF 50 suits Indian summers. Make sure to reapply the product every few hours to ensure maximum protection and ideally pick a product that helps prevent burns, rashes and dark spots.
Be fair to your hair
While all of us love the idea of flaunting long locks, the harsh October heat may damage your hair permanently. You can either go for a hairstyle that requires minimum maintenance or ensure a healthy hair care regime by washing your hair regularly with a mild and herbal shampoo and cold water. You could also protect your hair with scarfs, head bands and hats this summer 2.0!
